Dr. Healani Chang

Healani Chang, DrPH. (Native Hawaiian/Chinese Female), Research Associate Specialist Professor in the Pacific Biosciences Research Center, University of Hawaii (UH).

Dr. Chang is the former program director of the MARC U*STAR and IMSD Programs, sponsored by NIGMS, NIH, and served two consecutive terms on the SACNAS Board of Directors.

Through an exciting new partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, Pearl Harbor National Refuge, Kalaeloa Unit, chapter members have an opportunity to conduct research using Hawaiian ecological knowledge and providing educational outreach to high school students in the neighboring communities to further the conservation and restoration efforts of endemic plants and the unique ecosystem for the Hawaiian red shrimp ‘opae ‘ula, halocaridina rubra.  The `Ilima SACNAS Chapter co-manages community outreach in the Kalaeloa Unit.  Dr. Chang coordinates these efforts with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
